You're sitting there listening to some tunes on your iPod or whatever MP3 player you choose. All the sounds, the melodies and harmonies bring you back to a place where all was good and right in the world - and it dawns on you... DAMN, I really wish I could learn to play the guitar.
As a kid you may have even had some rock posters (should I dare say a black light too) on your wall. You've always wanted to play; heck you wanted to be a rock star!
Well maybe the days of jammin' out playing in front of tens of thousands of screaming fans are a distant memory but it's not too late to learn how to play the guitar.
But how? There's no time, right? Too much going on and the schedule is just too tight. You can't go it alone can you? Well, you don't have to.
You can find all that you need in terms of teaching and instruction from a guitar class online. That's right, and better yet - you can learn at your own pace and around your own schedule.
Just like meeting with a regular instructor, you should start off with the basics. If you want to play guitar you'll need to know about the parts of the guitar: its body, neck, bridge, sound-hole, strings, frets, and tuning pegs.
Once you know those, you'll need to tune the guitar and this can be done by ear or by using a guitar tuner (if you are just starting out, spend the few buck and get a tuner). You'll be playing a six string so your guitar will be tuned as follows: E-A-D-G-B-E.
Now that the guitar sounds good when you strum it's time to learn a few chords. You'll probably begin with the A-chord and D-chord first. They are the easiest chord forms and demand the least effort from your fingers.
You'll be amazed at how it actually sounds like you're playing the guitar by just knowing a few chords. You know what - that's because you are playing the guitar! Congratulations.
Finding a guitar class online can be a blessing because it allows you to learn at your own pace and around your personal schedule. You're not held to a rigid schedule that the school or instructor sets. Remember though, if you want to get good, you still have to pay your dues - that is; spend the time to learn and even more time to practice.
Learning to play the guitar is only the beginning of a lifelong love and journey for serious students. Learning the basics is one thing; being able to play chords and a few songs- But getting better at playing takes time and effort. You might get stuck in rut every once-in-a-while. Don't worry; it happens to the best.
